This week I had the opportunity to evaluate the results we are achieving in our quarterly report. I like to compare some indicators to understand if our business is growing or not. I compare the first quarter 2018 with the first quarter 2017 and the last quarter 2017. The indicators I compare are:
1. Number of new enrolaments
2. Number of renovations (retention of students)
3. Total number of students
4. Profit.
After have this numbers I realized that, all the things were better than 2017 except the number of new enrolments. I got surprised because in the other two schools that we have this number was excellent. After analyzing it I made a lot of plans for the second quarter for that school which had never achieved the goal. This friday I had a meeting with them (the sale department). But I felt something different, I can say that was an inspiration.
We started the meeting, we read the report from last week, checked out what was done, and what was not, and after, we had to start the training, that I had prepared, but I felt that I should show them the numbers and just ask one question and let them answer and write their answers. I felt it and made it!
I showed and told them: - People here are the number of 2017. 84 enrollments in the first quarter, and so far we have 65 enrollments in this first quarter 2018. Please take a paper sheet and write the following question: Why I did not enroll enough in this first quarter? Please write your answers. You have 20 minutes to do it and discuss about it.
After some time, they came up with the answers and with the projects for the second quarter, The difference was that now, they made the plans, and that was not impose to them. I believe that their motivation will be bigger in realizing it. Important to say, that their plans were very close to that plans that I had prepared to show them.
I know the importance of making questions, but sometimes I underestimate this powerful tool. One of the most powerful tool you as a "boss" can have, is the ability to ASK GOOD QUESTIONS and LISTEN TO the answers. The most important tool you MUST HAVE is TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE AND FOLLOW INSPIRATION.
