Self- mastery and Character

SELF-MASTERY AND CHARACTER:

          This week I will write important insights I had about self-mastery and character. In business scenario there are many corruptive ideas, and without character and self-mastery, the businesses companies won´t last too much.

          Let´s start with a quote from N. Eldon Tanner “If you wish to achieve financial success, if you wish to be happy, if you wish to be healthy, if you would be morally clean, if you wish to find religious peace of mind, there is only one sure way, and that is the straight and narrow path—the way of honor, the way of industry, of moderation, simplicity, and virtue.”

          To achieve the good things in life we have to be different, there is no other way. To be different in this world (business world) we will need to live a simple and virtuous life. Nowadays where wrong looks like right and right seems to be wrong, we first need to have character to do what is right and character is determined by the extent to which we can master ourselves toward good ends. Sometimes is easier to lie just a little to the governor and don´t pay taxes, or to lie to our clients just a little, and when we realize our business is broken, not because the skills of the businessman or his capacity to manage the company, but because his character.

          Da vince said: “You will never have a greater or lesser dominion than that over yourself.”  If we have the capacity to master ourselves, we will be able to help others and to become trustworthy leaders. The people will desire to make business with us, because they will trust us, after in our business and in our product.

          In my opinion the foundation for a trustworthy business, are the people who are managing it. People will always be more important than institutions.
