I always want to be better, better than my competitor, a better company, better entrepreneur, better father, husband, better, better and better. This week I studied two different articles and one book about, how to be better. The first article was from Gordon B Hinckley, "stand True and faithful" the other one was from Clayton M. Christensen about "how will you measure your life" and the last one was the best seller The seven habits of high effective people.
After all this lectures my desire was to be.....better. I learned that to be effective I need to follow some steps, and to be a better person I need to help others, and to have the desire to help others I will need stand true and faithful. To be better does not happen overnight, it takes time, and one of the most precious think we have in this life is our time, so using our time wisely will be the secret to succeed in professional, personal and spiritual life.
Some advises I liked to receive this week and, I would like to share with you. (actually with me and my teacher because this blog is an assignment from my University and I think is just my teacher and I and maybe my father that read it. kkkkkkkkkkk).
STAND TRUE AND FAITHFUL: From Gordon B. Hinckley
"You constantly are faced with difficult choices. Your problems are not new, but they are intensified." we will always have examples how to succeed in times of difficulties because our problems are not new, but they are intensified, so we need to study more the scriptures the best books and look for good advises more intensively than before.
"We go to school to learn and to equip ourselves for the work which we
will do in the future. It is imperative that we take advantage of the
opportunity to learn." We study to learn and not just to get a job, our future depends on how we learn today.
"Life is becoming so exceedingly competitive. Experts say that the
average man or woman, during his or her working career, can expect to
have at least five different jobs. The world is changing, and it is so
very important that we equip ourselves to move with that change."to equip ourselves we need to develop the habit to learn as much as we can.
I would like to share and experience while I was in Canada, OTTAWA. I was visiting that beautiful city and I was in the Parliament Hill, Its beautiful, while I was in the elevator the women who was explaining the history about that building asked me, -ok, now how can I say this in Portuguese? So I explained her and she told me that she learned how to explain in Spanish the history of that building while she was guiding tourists that spoke Spanish, and now she wanted to learn Portuguese while working there. One of the most important skills we can develop is learn how to learn.
HOW WILL YOU MEASURE YOUR LIFE: From Clayton M. Christensen
"Doing deals does not yield the deep reward that comes from building up people" People will always be more important than everything, and helping people to became better is always the most important task we have here on earth.
"Your decisions about allocating your personal time, energy and talent ultimately shapes your life´s strategy" This declaration always make me think; how will I spend my time today?
"It´s easier to hold to your principles 100% of the time than it is to hold to them 98% of the time" The most secure way to keep focus on what we want is to plan and do exactly as we planned, It is very risky deviate only slightly. If I decide don´t study today, just today, tomorrow will be more difficult to study, and I may think, maybe tomorrow I study I prefer to go to the movies or watch a film in my couch today with my family and friends..... and when we realize we didn´t do any assignment, we didn´t learn and in five years that I supposed to be graduated, I will not!
CONCLUSION:
Its all a matter of habit, how I live today will influence my tomorrow, if I will be better or not, depends how I act today.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit" Aristotle
